The University of Bath signs £16m construction contract

Posted by naomi5 on October 23, 2012

According to the Construction Enquirer this morning, the University of Bath has signed a £16m contract with Vinci Construction UK to design and construct a five storey teaching building totalling 80,000 sq ft which will double the number of lecture theatres currently on campus. It will house two 350 space lecture theatres aswell as other teaching rooms.

This project is state of the art, utilising glass walls to allow for natural light and a “skywalk” bridge which will connect to the main campus, and will be able to accommodate up to 2000 students to use the building at the same time.

This contract is part of the University Master plan to develop the campus up to 2026.

Vinci Construction Uk was founded in London at the beginning of last century by Danish Civil Engineers Knud Holst and Christian Lunoe, and their Head Office is currently based in Watford.

During the 1980’s they became the largest privately owned construction group in the country.

In 2011 they renamed their Civil Engineering Division to Taylor Woodrow after 16 year old Frank Taylor who founded Taylor Woodrow Construction in 1921, which was acquired by Vinci PLC in 2008.
